Gemma Collins has shared her relief at her 73-year-old dad Alan being finally allowed home from hospital after his battle with coronavirus.

Speaking on her BBC podcast, Gemma revealed the news she has been waiting for came days before her 40th birthday.

"My dad comes home this week, so it's the best birthday I could wish for," she delightedly told listeners.

"Yes, I can’t have the party that was planned. I had arranged so many singers to come to a venue I booked last year.

"That's not going to happen but it doesn’t matter because my dad has survived Covid."

Proud Gemma said that hospital staff referred to her dad as the 'miracle man' following his amazing recovery.

Alan was admitted to hospital in December after testing positive for Covid.

"Covid ripped through my family and it was so heartbreaking. It was so heartbreaking to see my dad fighting for his life," said Gemma.

The reality was dealt a double blow as her mother Joan contracted the deadly virus at the same time.

While her mum made a recovery, the family were warned Alan 'might not make it' after he was struck down by illness.

Over Christmas, Gemma shared a heartbreaking photo of her clutching her dad's hand while he lay in a hospital bed.

"Our house is not the same without my dad and it has been such a scary time because we just haven’t known how he was going to be. And if he was going to make it," she admitted.

However, Gemma and her mum are delighted that Alan will be with them to celebrate the milestone birthday.

Revealing her plans, Gemma said: "I've ordered myself a huge cake. The fact that I can sit with my dad eating cake on my birthday is absolutely priceless.

"I've ordered three large French fancies. They are my favourite cake in the whole wide world, and Battenberg."
