JoJo Siwa is the happiest she's ever been.

A day after sharing her “Best. Gay. Cousin. Ever” shirt, the YouTuber opened up further to fans about her sexual identity. In an Instagram Live on Saturday, January 23, JoJo announced that she’s been feeling great since sharing her true self with the world. “Personally I have never, ever, ever been this happy before and it feels really awesome,” the 17-year-old explained. “I've been happy for a little bit now. It's just so, so, so awesome.”

JoJo also shared that she’s not ready to put a label on her sexual identity. “I have thought about this, but the reason I'm not going to say this answer is because I don't really know this answer,” she said in response to a fan who wanted to know if she’s given a name to her sexuality. “I think humans are awesome, I think humans are really incredible people. Right now, I'm super-duper happy and I want to share everything with the world but I also want to keep things in my life private until they are ready to be public. Right now what matters is that you guys know that no matter who you love, that it's okay. It's awesome and the world is there for you.”

The YouTuber went on to emphasize that coming out looks different for everyone, but encouraged others to share their true selves with the world as well, adding that she’s known about her own identity from a young age. “My whole life, I just liked people,” she explained after a fan asked when she knew she was a member of the LGBTQ+ community. “I always believed that my person was going to be my person and if that person happened to be a boy, great! And if that person happened to be a girl, great! I think in life, you know when you meet your person.”

Thanking fans for their support, JoJo acknowledged that it’s been a whirlwind 48 hours from her rainbow-laden TikTok video to her declarative t-shirt, adding that she’s received nothing but joy and love from fans and celebs alike. “I'm just so happy!” she said with a big smile. “I'm the happiest I have ever been.”

JoJo’s comments about labels and sexual identity are an important reminder that no one should ever feel pressured to assign a name to their sexuality if they aren’t ready. What's more, it’s totally cool if the label changes! As you grow and evolve, you might find a term that feels like a better fit, and that’s OK too. No matter what words (or lack thereof) you use, however you identify is valid — and completely up to you.
