BTS makes Grammys history today (Nov. 24) by becoming the first K-pop group to earn a nomination in a major category.
During Tuesday’s big reveal of all the nominations for the 63rd Grammy Awards, the boy band’s career-first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit and English-language single “Dynamite” received a nod for best pop duo/group performance.
BTS‘ Love Yourself: Tear was previously up for best recording package in 2019, but had they won, the award would’ve gone to art director HuskyFox. They did make history at last year’s ceremony by being the first K-pop group to present an award.
The septet showed their gratitude on Twitter, writing, “Thank you to everyone who listened to and sympathized with our music during the difficult times. Above all, it is ARMYs who made the miracle of being a Grammy candidate. I always appreciate and love you. Thank you @RecordingAcad for this great honor!”
Thank you @RecordingAcad for this great honor!— 방탄소년단 (@BTS_twt) November 24, 2020
Member V and the ARMY have already begun reintroducing themselves with their new titles. V (real name: Kim Taehyung) already took to Weverse, the artist-to-fan platform for K-pop artists, to write, “Hello this is Grammy-nominated BTS Kim Taehyung,” according to multiple translations from Twitter.
And their fans have been flexing their favorite artists’ newest credentials by tweeting, “Why? do i look like a fan of an artist who got two number 1’s on the billboard this year, released multiple best selling albums and got nominated for a grammy?”
