Argentine soccer legend Diego Armando Maradona died of a heart attack on Wednesday (Nov. 25) at 60 years old. Maradona had been hospitalized for an emergency brain surgery after suffering a subdural hematoma, but had been released Nov. 11.
Following the World Cup winner’s death, which was confirmed by his longtime agent Matias Morla, the Argentine Football Association released a statement that read: “[We] expresses deepest pain at the death of our legend, Diego Armando Maradona. You’ll always be in our hearts.”

Born Oct. 30, 1960, Maradona made his big debut in Buenos Aires at age 15. He then went on to lead Argentina’s national team to victory in the 1986 World Cup. In total, he played 91 games for his country’s national team and also played for Barcelona at club level as well as Napoli.

As the world processes the news of Maradona’s sudden death, musicians such as J Balvin, Ricardo Montaner, Maluma, Fito Paez and DJ Snake took to social media to pay tribute and remember their idol and one of the greatest soccer players of all time.
“Every soccer lover, that type of soccer that makes us laugh and cry, will be in mourning because of Maradona’s significance in our lives,” Montaner tweeted. “I will forever remember yelling with every goal and every championship.”
Maluma posted, “We lost the biggest legends soccer has given us. Rest in peace, Diego. We will miss you tons.”
