Lana Del Rey has spoken out about criticism over what appeared to be a mesh mask she wore at a book singing last month. It turns out that seeing is not believing. The singer was called out by some when she wore a netted mask that appeared to be more fashion than COVID-19-appropriate while attending a signing for her book in Los Angeles and greeting large groups of fans. So, she tweeted out a response to a weekend article by the the University of Michigan’s student newspaper that dissected the backlash over the incident.
“Great article,” she wrote about the piece that explored the question of whether LDR should be canceled over the mask-troversy. Lana then popped the outrage balloon with a single, revealing fact. “The mask had plastic on the inside. “They’re commonly sewn in by stylists these days. I don’t generally respond to articles because I don’t care. But there ya go. Same goes for everyone’s masks in my video. I’m lucky enough to have a team of people who can do that.”

And while she was on it, she also responded to the article’s suggestion that “other whispers online” have suggested she “glamorizes abusive and toxic relationships,” while throwing in a response to trolls who questioned who she voted for in the presidential election. Again, Del Rey said, not a thing. “I made it clear who I voted for,” wrote the singer, who, at the time, congratulated president-elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris while also re-tweeting other praise for the Democratic team that is still waiting for lame duck President Donald Trump to formally concede the election. “And I don’t glamorize tough relationships. Relationships can just be tough. Period. Every other singer sings about the same damn thing. Always have. Probably always will.”
For the record, the hits just kept on coming, as did Lana’s fiery answers. When one commenter said, “no hate but took you long enough,” seemingly annoyed that it took LDR a month to clear up the mask mishegoss. “Bro I’m working on 2 albums and excitedly and happily donating a million dollars throughout the nation,” she responded, noting that if she answered every sling and arrow she’d be… shrug emoji.
