NCT's massive 2020 comeback is finally here with genre-spanning album NCT Resonance Part 1.

The giant 23-member operation from SM Entertainment combines existing subunits NCT 127, NCT U, NCT Dream, and WayV, and they also added two brand new members, Shotaro and Sungchan, for the comeback. The full NCT 2020 lineup includes Taeil, Johnny, Taeyong, Yuta, Doyoung, Ten, Jaehyun, Winwin, Mark, Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Chenle, Jisung, Lucas, Jungwoo, Kun, Xiaojun, Yangyang, Hendery, Shotaro, and Sungchan. But kicking off the endeavor is lead single “Make a Wish (Birthday Song)," performed by Taeyong, Doyoung, Jaehyun, Jaemin, Lucas, Xiaojun, and Shotaro.

The music video for “Make a Wish” is lavish, with the members swinging precariously on chandeliers and disappearing in flames. Lyrically, the Korean version of the whistle-rap track is more abstract: Embracing higher energy, moving to the next level, and seeing your “dreams spread over the water" like the beginning of a movie. The English version of the song is, um, decidedly not that. (Let's just say there are a lot of dessert metaphors.) The range!

Elsewhere on NCT Resonance Part 1, you'll find dreamy piano trap-pop ("Faded in My Last Song"); climactic, infectious drama ("Déjà Vu"); and soft, ‘90s R&B-infused yearning ("From Home"). There are as many moods as there are members, and the cumulative effect is playful and bright, a world we're excited to see more of.
