Katy Perry is a very busy woman right now. She wrapped another season as an American Idol judge, is out (well, not literally out) promoting her upcoming album, Smile, and preparing for the birth of her first child—all during a global pandemic. Oh, and she had to postpone her wedding to Orlando Bloom too.

The singer opened up to People about what that’s been like for her and let fans in, yet again, on her vulnerable side. “Every day your options change, and you don’t know what’s what. Especially being pregnant in a pandemic, it’s an emotional roller coaster,” she said.

Still, she’s been able to stay grounded. “Having a great partner, having a sound mind, continuing to do the work, I’m not as flinchable,” Perry said, explaining how she’s been getting through. “I’m not untouchable or invincible, but it’s a little bit more like water off a duck’s back.” While she praises Bloom as a partner, she’s previously talked about how she’s pushed his boundaries during quarantine.

“Well, what I have actually learned, some of the positives, because he’s seen it all, and God bless him, he’s still here, which is amazing and commendable,” Perry said to SiriusXM Hits 1. “Because I have definitely tested him and been like, ‘Oh yeah? You think you can handle me? Let’s see it!’”

Perry also revealed how she bounced back after the disappointing (in comparison to her other hit albums) sales of Witness, which she released in 2017. “After being on a rocket ship and just going straight up, it was just a small change in the trajectory, but it felt seismic,” she said to People. “It’s been two-and-a-half years of trying to find my footing. It’s so easy for me to work, work, work and avoid, but I had to go on a mental and spiritual journey.”

“I get to live life, and I get to bring life into the world,” she continued. “Finding the gratitude in this pain has been a real journey, but the outcome is worth it.”

It sure sounds like Katy Perry is exactly where she needs to be.
