A Wenatchee teen died after she was swept away in the Entiat River at the Lake Creek campground on Sunday, the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office said.

At 4:15 p.m. deputies were advised by 911 dispatchers about a water rescue involving a 14-year-old who had been washed away in the river, and a 20-year-old man who was stranded on a rock in the middle of the river.Deputies said crews in the helicopter found her downstream in fast-moving water from where the man was stranded.

Rescuers on the ground used a rope system and ladder to get to the girl but she was deceased, officials said. While crews were recovering the girl’s body, a helicopter from Naval Air Station Whidbey assisting in the rescue pulled the East Wenatchee man to safety.
