The resolution condemns the Myanmar military’s seizure of power last month and its detention of a number of the nation’s elected civilian leaders, labeling the development a “direct assault on the country’s transition to democracy and the rule of law.” Most of the House Republicans who voted against the resolution are members of the Freedom Caucus, including Rep. Andy Biggs , the chair of the caucus, and Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene , Lauren Boebert and Chip Roy .posted to Twitter, said the violence is “tragic,” but “there is suffering everywhere in the world” and the U.S. “can’t be the military police for the entire world,” claiming the resolution is a way to “put our foot in the door in Burma.
