Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande premiered the music video for their new collab “Rain On Me” on Friday (May 22) and their respective fan bases reacted with a resounding cry: pop music is saved.
“Wow. Two powerful iconic italian women did WHAT? That,” one Little Monster tweeted while another declared the two stars switching hairstyles partway through the clip as “one for the history books.”
Meanwhile, on particularly clever fan tied Mean Girls into her response, tweeting, “There’s a 100% chance it’s raining on me” alongside an edit of Karen, the hilariously ditzy Plastic played by Amanda Seyfried in the 2004 teen classic, wearing Gaga’s Chromatica-inspired makeup as she reports on the weather.
Arriving on the heels of lead single “Stupid Love,” “Rain On Me” serves as the second preview off Gaga’s long-awaited sixth studio album, which is set to be released May 29 after being pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic. The dance-pop duet also marks Grande’s second major collab of the month following her No. 1 hit with Justin Bieber, “Stuck With U.”
