Those dreaming of seeing Meghan Markle at the 2020 Met Gala will have to wait at least another year despite reports that surfaced this weekend claiming the Duchess of Sussex plans to attend May's prestigious New York City bash.

Hello! set the record straight today, writing that it understands, via its own sources, that "the Duchess will not be attending the star-studded bash this year." The Sun, one of the tabloids Meghan and Prince Harry are suing, started the rumor that Meghan was going to go. Their news story was widely aggregated across other British tabloids and some U.S. outlets like Page Six.

A source claimed to The Sun that Meghan planned to attend with British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful. The two collaborated on her Forces of Change September 2019 British Vogue issue.

The Sun's source said, “The Met Gala is for the Who’s Who of showbusiness. Naturally Meghan was one of the first names on the guest list, and Edward’s team are excited that the two will go together. Meghan is keen to step out occasionally without Harry so that she can establish herself once more in Hollywood."

In reality, Meghan and Harry are quietly at work establishing their non-profit. This week, they will be in the UK doing their last official events as senior royal family members. The couple will begin their transition out of those roles starting on April 1.

Meghan and Harry encouraged their fans to consult their site, sussexroyal.com, for accurate information regarding their next steps. "As The Duke and Duchess of Sussex continue to develop their non-profit organization and plan for their future, we hope that you use this site as the source for factual information," the couple's team wrote. "In Spring 2020, their digital channels will be refreshed as they introduce the next exciting phase to you."
