The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Have a Royal Tour Planned for Next Month

Amidst all of the drama surrounding the royal family of late, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are soldiering on as a unified front. Today, Kensington Palace announced that the pair will embark on a three-day royal tour of Ireland next month.
Taking place from March 3-5, the tour will see the pair visit Dublin, County Meath, County Kildare and Galway to “learn about local organizations working to support and empower young people and projects which provide opportunities to help them develop important life skills,” according to the release. Plus, they’ll also learn more about the country’s “conservation initiatives and efforts to protects its environment, with a particular focus on sustainable farming and marine conservation.”
They will also meet with government officials, including the President and Prime Minister (also known as the Taoiseach), as well as various working professionals in the creative arts, business and charity sectors.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were the last royals to visit Ireland in 2018 on their first international visit. Prior to that, in 2011 Queen Elizabeth made an historic visit to the country – making her the first British monarch to do so in 100 years. The official statement noted that the trip will “build on the theme of remembrance and reconciliation” and finished by saying, “The Duke and Duchess are looking forward to building a lasting friendship with the Irish people.”
The visit comes after a particularly dramatic start to 2020 for the royal family. Last week, it was announced that Harry and Meghan will no longer be able to use the word ‘royal’ after transitioning out of their senior royal roles come March 31. Further details of what the next 12 months will look like for the pair were also released.
