The Austin-based duo is the first act to reign with a maiden No. 1 this year (and decade), and the first since Caamp, whose “Peach Fuzz” led for three weeks in November.

“Colors” is Black Pumas’ second title to reach Adult Alternative Songs. Their debut single, “Black Moon Rising,” peaked at No. 31 last August.

Concurrently, “Colors” lifts 41-39 on the all-rock-format Rock Airplay ranking, marking the group’s first top 40 entry on the tally (1.3 million audience impressions, up 1%, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data).

“Colors” might be familiar to non-triple A radio listeners, too. Beginning late last year, the song was featured in a commercial for Bank of America.

Black Pumas, comprised of Eric Burton and Adrian Quesada, were nominated for best new artist at the 62nd Grammy Awards after they released their debut self-titled album last June. The set has earned 38,000 equivalent album units to date.
