• Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly going to be reimbursing taxpayers for the cost of their security.
  • The plan is contingent on whether they’ll be “commercially successful.”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s decision to step down as working royals has come with a lot of unanswered questions—chief among them being whomst is going to pay for their security over in Canada?

According to sources who spoke to The Telegraph, Meghan and Harry will “reimburse the taxpayer for security provided on private business engagements with no Royal connection”—at least, assuming they are “commercially successful.”

The amount of money paid will apparently depend on how much money Meghan and Harry earn once they’re financially independent in the spring, but considering they’re two of the most influential people in the world, something tells me they won’t have a hard time.

The arrangement is said to be similar to that of former Prime Minister Tony Blair, who a source says “reimburses at least part of his security costs on commercial trips. There is an arrangement for that in place. Harry and Meghan intend to do the same for private trips.”

Daily Mail reports that Meghan and Harry have six people on their security team from the Metropolitan Police, but the plan is for their protection to eventually be taken over by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Sounds complicated, but looks like steps are being made to keep them safe while keeping the cost down for taxpayers!
