'Yappy Hour': Motorworks Brewing in Florida puts shelter dogs on beer cans to help them find forever homes

A brewery in Florida provides its customers with some of the most adorable cans of beer imaginable.

Motorworks Brewing in Bradenton launched a special-edition four-pack of one of its award-winning beers. Each can has the face of a different shelter dog looking for its forever home.

Proceeds go to Shelter Manatee, and two of the dogs featured on the cans – Morton and King – have been adopted, said Barry Elwonger, director of sales and marketing for Motorworks.

"The response so far has just been incredibly overwhelming," Elwonger said. "The community is just in love with the project, as are we. The outreach has just been fantastic, which is the point of the project – to raise that awareness. We've been over the moon the last couple of days."

The brewery had sold 200 four-packs as of Thursday evening, Elwonger said. He said he's confident the brewery will sell out of its first batch of 450 four-packs. The beer featured in the promotion is the Cruiser Golden Lager, a multi-award-winning beer.

"We're planning on brewing a lot more of it," Elwonger said with a laugh.

Elwonger, who has a dog, said Motorworks has done a dog-related event every third Sunday since opening six years ago. The "Adoptable Dog" four-pack was released during "Yappy Hour."

"We know that we're driving eyes toward the shelter and finding these dogs homes," Elwonger said.

He said, "The dog love is pretty much across our entire company and is something that is near and dear to our hearts, our leadership's hearts and has always been in mind with our ethos as a company."
