‘Of course she does. Co-writes some of them’, the interviewer, Mikael Wood, retorts.
I’ve no problem with anyone disliking Taylor’s records – music is an artform to be liked or disliked. But when one becomes uppity about the authenticity of an artist who is critically acclaimed the world over, I can’t help but think one’s snootiness is based on the fact that said artist is a female who appeals to a largely female fanbase.
Taylor does the same now and then, but she’s also given us spectacular dance routines, breath-taking costumes and full-blown razzamatazz. But when women serve a five-course dinner in heels, it doesn’t mean we were any less involved in writing our own recipes. One of my favourite versions of a Taylor Swift song is a cover by Imagine Dragons, a pop rock band from Las Vegas. It’s a live set, and at the top of the recording they say: ‘We’re going to play a song by Taylor Swift. I love the melodies in this song, I think they’re absolutely brilliant. It’s really good melody writing.’
nicolathorp_ MetroOpinion I really don't think that Taylor being female has anything to do with his comments at all.
nicolathorp_ MetroOpinion Whats this an attempted ££ click...
nicolathorp_ MetroOpinion I think he'd question anyone who churns out 'popular' but ultimately hollow drivel.
