Wild bison to return to UK for first time in 6,000 years

Wild bison are to return to the UK for the first time in 6,000 years, with the release of a small herd in Kent planned for spring 2022.

I fail to see how adding a species that went extinct over 6,000 years ago will help to correct an ecological problem that's only existed since the Industrial Revolution a few hundred years ago. Wouldn't it make more sense to invest - heavily - in green energy?
