Here's why prosecutors are charging Alec Baldwin with involuntary manslaughter

He could face at least five years in prison if a jury finds that the actions that led to Hutchins’ death were more than simple negligence.posted to the District Attorney’s official social media accounts.

In New Mexico, involuntary manslaughter in the commission of a lawful act is used to hold people accountable for doing things that “an ordinary prudent adult would know better than to do,” says University of New Mexico law professor Joshua Kastenberg. That includes not “point[ing] a gun at somebody else unless you’re absolutely sure it’s unloaded and safe.”

However, if convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the commission of a lawful act, there will be a “sentencing enhancement” because the manslaughter was committed with a firearm. Under New Mexico law, that carries a mandatory five-year prison sentence.

The usual setup, he got mixed up with scoundrels.

He killed a person by being negligent with a firearm. He broke the two most scared rules. Never point a gun at anything you don't want to destroy and just as important always clear the fire arm yourself. He was the producer he was at fault 7 ways from Sunday.

Because he did something wrong? It’s the law?

Politics?

Because he was the producer on a film that hired an inexperienced crew one of which was playing gunslinger with live rounds in the desert on her off time? And 2 of these inexperienced crew handed him a hot firearm on a set?

Check out r/HilaryBaldwin on Reddit if you want to learn about Alec and his faux Spanish grifter wife. They made millions pretending she was Spanish

He pulled the trigger.

Because he killed somebody.

Probably not the thing to do, listening- as she spoke yesterday, I couldn’t help but wonder her political party.

Does being an armorer not require certification or licencing in n.m.? Blame the state.

CGではダメ

i ask why you need to explain this? after someone shoots another person who is dead with result, being convicted of manslaughter is normal. I find it worrying that there are people who even question this.

Maybe they're charging him because he pulled the trigger and killed somebody, hope he doesn't get the star Hollywood or Democratic treatment two-tiered Justice, break the law and nothing happens to them, average everyday guy would be thrown in jail.

She’s doing to appease trump

Because someone wants to run for higher office and thinks this is their ticket.

Guns should always be treated as if their loaded. First lesson in gun safety! Baldwin should have made sure the gun wasn't hot as it was only his finger on the trigger!

a woman died due to negligence. someone is guilty of not doing the job for which he was paid. to pay!

Pretty clear he pulled the trigger and killed somebody here. Many safety issues on set. Many basic firearms safety rules overlooked.

Ty for this

Playing devil's advocate...Baldwin is a vocal liberal, prosecutor is a Republican. It would make more sense to charge him and others as Producers for the lax precautions vice him as an actor who was holding a 'cold' gun.

Because he killed a woman?

Alec Baldwin charged with involuntary manslaughter over fatal shooting of cinematographer on set of RustHollywood star Alec Baldwin has been charged with involuntary manslaughter over the fatal shooting of a cinematographer during production of Rust. How does that work? How can someone be charged with that if the prop was checked and deemed safe? Or am I missing something 🤔 So you have an armourer whose responsibility on a the film set is to ensure props are safe to be used (i.e a gun is not loaded with real bullets). I’m not a big fan of Mr A Baldwin, this is a clear case of blaming him because it’s him. I hope his lawyers challenge and wins.
