A critically acclaimed Hollywood movie opening in UK cinemas this week is shining a much-needed spotlight on how learning disability is represented in film.

Good article. I made a comedy drama about Downs Syndrome (on iPlayer for a few more days) that balances real issues with the dreaded 'heart-warming' label. The real hurdle is getting disabled characters into 'regular' stories, like sitcoms or crime shows.

Teach them to boil an egg and get their shopping in, pay bills etc. without getting mugged. Apart from that why bother teaching folk who aren't capable of learning much stuff they don't understand.

Honestly I think netflix has changed the game on inclusion thepolitician is just the latest example of substantive inclusion that’s not just a token effort/role
