Our venue is a private, exclusive hire only so no 'members of the public' would be able to walk in . We had confirmed that there were no weddings the week of our wedding or the day after. But then we found out we couldn't have music or dancing . We looked at alternatives and found we could have some evening entertainment - an extra cost but worth it so our guests could still enjoy the evening.
We still do not fully understand the reasoning behind it. In March it seemed fair as all venues, such as pubs and restaurants, were shut. Now they can have well over 30 people until 10pm. Schools, universities and workplaces stay open. Funerals and wakes can take place with 30 people. We know the government is trying to control the virus but we are painfully aware that they are ruining the dreams of hundreds of couples and probably closing the businesses of hundreds of self-employed people who rely on the wedding industry.
Weddings take months or years to plan so giving seven days' notice of such major changes is completely unacceptable. You can't just postpone a wedding in seven days, or cancel without losing thousands of pounds.
Muy cierto 👏👏
How can you all sit a fixed tables in groups of no more than 6 and not move apart from going to the toilet at a wedding?
Cos this government is fxxk8ng clueless
I wish someone had banned my wedding.
Pubs should be shut
Get married in a pub. Thats okay... plus Ice Skating is okay too... as my daughter experienced a packed ice rink in Basingstoke all whizzing round and round with no masks? Lots of random exclusions, discrepancies, anomalies that make people fed up with compliance.
Just get married and go to the pub, problem solved.
Oh I know.....because the rules of a killer virus are made up bullshit and covid can tell if it's going to a pub or a wedding
Pub punters don't kiss the bride which they do in the wedding.
Really? Thoughtyou where reporters seems obvious to me
Because the whole pub aren’t going to hug or mix with each other. Zero sympathy for anyone that booked a wedding.
Weddings are planned well in advance. £14.7 billion ind. If footy can go ahead, so should weddings. Every guest must book a test before the event and enter their negative conf in app. This can be shown at arrival to the venue. IDchecked etc. Covid secure wedding. Could work.
They can’t? Only 6 can book a table in a pub
My Mum’s funeral had 10 family members. Rules are rules.
Because pubs are generally doing a good job of keeping people in discrete groups of 6. That wouldn't likely happen at a wedding. Despite what people want to think, there is some logic behind these restrictions. No conspiracy theories I'm afraid
This is really a stupid question. And if as a major news channel you don’t know the answer to your own question it just goes to show how stupid your editor is. Oh by the way if you ask me directly I will give you the answer.
I photographed a 30 guest wedding yesterday. Apart from it being wonderful to be able to work, it felt very safe, guests complied with rules & it was an utterly joyous occasion. Let wedding sector professionals do their jobs & let couples celebrate love. whataboutweddings
Or funerals cannot see the difference especially given that the average age of funeral attendees will be much higher than weddings
It doesn’t make sense pubs open kids at school . Helping with employment but wedding venues still suffer , Two granddaughters worked in a wedding venue and their jobs are gone
h6mel I’ve asked this many times. If a restaurant has a private room you can book it for as many people as it will hold and have tables of 6 but you can’t book an events venue & do the same thing? WHY? The government have thrown the wedding & events industry under a bus. Shameful!!
Why? Because you are socially distanced in a pub not at a wedding. That’s like saying why are shops open but football stadiums empty. Literally no correlation
Pretend it’s a funeral (30 allowed) and have the groom jump out of the coffin.
This is very true, completely contradictory rules and totally illogical. Radical rethink needed now.
They don't make so much money.
Because this guy is steering the rickety ship .... both should be stopped but he’s relying on British booze culture to save the economy
I feel very sorry for people who booked a wedding for 30 people (already a strict limit), only for that to be halved following the most recent changes. It’s put many in an impossible situation.
couples & businesses have lost so much money, the industry has been decimated. There was no scientific evidence around transmission in 30 people socially distanced weddings, its ridiculous that its been drastically cut to 15 whilst pubs & restaurants can still have larger numbers
That is a very good question bearing in mind funerals remain at 30 !
Again, lost in the absurd decision... Get us back to 30! whataboutweddings
Because its not about a virus ! Its about power the government has and will not give up!
Wow! Sky News not depicting an interracial gay couple. Someone is for the sack.
Have your wedding in a pub!
Only engaged in August, surely they can wait a little longer?
Get booked up now so no one can complain about not being invited!
Why - encourage 241 eat out meals now curfew, why send students into uni with high tuition but with ONLINE study + high rents & then imprison, why say GO into work now work from home - clueless and incompetent THATS why - now talks of 60 in school classes - madness
Simple
Solictors will be moaning next about the divorce rate going down. One usually leads to the other
You know the answer so why create more issue by stoking the fire....
Because it would be impossible to keep people distant and safe at a wedding. It's feasible in a pub.
Get married in a pub then. Win win
pub is still bubbles of 6 max and rules have to be adhered to. weddings, 30-40+ people won't be in any bubble and will hug and kiss, not social distance, not stick to the rules. so restrictions are needed.
It is C-LOGIC.
Cuz we have a government that’s run by idiots! Vote them out, simple.
Because the idiots who make these laws have no real grip on reality.
Pubs will be shut down again soon, that’s where the infections are being transferred
It's called an important life event. Are you trying to make weddings even smaller?
Because Boris likes pub and drinking and none of his friends were due to get married soon.
Because everthing is fu**ed worldwide.
Stop complaining. Get married in a pub.
Because marriage is a pointless, archaic tradition.
The blind leading the blind they seem to make it up on the back of a fag packet utter nonsense
Why is anything restricted when the pub or restaurant be full?!
QueenJZ2 Lol these people ask questions that most South Africans used to ask
People might turn on the state without their Victory Gin.
Have your wedding in a pub
Because the Marxists hate the idea of family. It’s that simple!
you dont need loads of people to get married, if you are that much in love and and have to get married just do it!
The mind boggles
Because the 'pendimic' is a scam a fake a fluke and the numbers are inflated and don't even add up I know when They will call us 'conspiracy theorists' but pin this tweet on your wall coz it its the truth and they know.
Because the narrative that’s been shoved down the world’s throat. Before this pandemic bollocks you would of done a piece about marriage being an outdated sign of privilege. 🙃
jasonleitch The devil incarnated might give us an answer,or he might just say the bullshit line the government told him to say .. its all about balance....
There is a valid difference. Weddings and Funerals tend to have very close contact in the form of prolonged hugs, and kisses on the cheek. No of course same can happen at the pub but realistically not as much.
Because Tim Martin isn't in the wedding business.
