In 1994, the Royal Court Theatre in Sloane Square staged a play based on Sue Townsend’s novel The Queen and I, in which the Queen had been deposed and was living with her family in a council flat. In the middle of one matinée performance there was a bomb scare, and audience and cast (still in full costume) were evacuated into the square.
