Elections in 2021 and the pandemic have brought the issue of Scottish independence into the spotlight.

Some in the UK government expect the trend to continue - though they think some of the support is "soft" and many could have their minds changed.PA MediaThe first minister has won approval in Scotland for her handling of the pandemic, polls suggestHealth is devolved - so the Scottish Government has been making most of the big decisions on how to respond. That means the devolved government is more important than ever in people's lives - literally making life or death decisions.

Many unionists I've spoken to agree that leadership is one of the key factors driving support for independence. The If the SNP win the election next May, they plan to put pressure on the prime minister by arguing the Scottish electorate has elected a party committed to holding another referendum.Boris Johnson has insisted he did not oppose devolution, saying he believed the way the SNP had handled it was a "disaster"But some in the SNP are restless and want Nicola Sturgeon to have a Plan B - a strategy to hold another referendum even if London says no.

Please please stop promoting another referendum, there was a massive democratic majority only 6 years ago to remain in the UK, there are other priorities which impact on people’s life’s which are being ignored

Not much

What's going on with the apparently impartial BBCScotlandNews. 'A BBC Scotland poll suggests 74% of Scots believed Nicola Sturgeon had done a good job'? Unsurprising as BBCScotland allow her hour long broadcasts each weekday and many news bulletins begin 'The First Minister'.

They voted to stay part of Britain a few years back BBC Can’t keep having referendums until you get the results you want. Same with brexit, I’m glad our media constantly trying to divide us 🙄

Nada

After Brexit, will, Scotland, Ireland and Wales vote for independence, then rejoin EU? Then what we have left is, Little England, under Boris, still thinking they rule the world!

Only in Scotland would we be speaking about independence in the middle of the worst recession in living memory. What a disgrace of a government.

DefundTheBBC

HE AQUI UN FISCAL SELECTIVO, CON FINANCISTAS DE PANDILLAS Y DIPUTADOS LLORONES QUE ESTUDIAN DERECHO PARA SER MAFIOSOS, DESHONESTOS E INCONVENIENTES PARA LOS INTERESES DEL PAIS.-

Nothing

What's going on with the SNP? Not cooperating with the Salmond inquiry, putting people with COVID back into care homes and generally being the incompetent government of Scotland. Hopefully nothing because we don't want to be poorer and smaller.

Absolutely nothing. Scotland have had their say just 6 years ago. Kranky hates England that’s all and she doesn’t think anything of Northern Ireland or Wales either

This once in a generation result remains for another 40 years & after that time any further vote must be a UK wide referendum on a matter affecting the whole of the UK in order to include the majority Scots & people of Scottish descent living & working in the rest of the UK.

Nothing it's still the same The snp are still refusing to accept the once in a generation result & demanding indy2 & the uk is still respecting our decision

Child empire building? I thought they had independence; as seem to do what they like; just we all contribute. Stop contributing seem a good idea but I still think better together; so should be put United back in UK.

Nothing, duh.

Perhaps one reason for the ''going on'' is the abject surrender of BBC Scotland and their supine surrender of fairness and allowing the FM a daily party political broadcast.

Is the Dear ‘Forgetful’ Leader running the BBC newsroom again today? I’ll tell you what’s going on, shall I? Her whole rotten regime is imploding. From top to bottom, they’re scrapping like rabid rats in a sack. You should be covering the real story : SALMONDGATE.

Your memory is on the same level as wee shitty tits, we get independence rammed down our throat everyday🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

start reporting the truth about Scotlands politics might be a start...

Nothing, so stop talking about it. Try finding out where thesnp are hiding the £1 billion they got from Westminster and the papers which incriminate NicolaSturgeon over Salmond.

What's going on with the BBC? Are you working for the SNP?

This is newsworthy why? this has been going on for years, hardly newsworthy.

What one? Indyref 1,2,3 etc...

It's being used as a smoke screen to distract from covid failures and Salmond enquiry etc

What's going on with the BBC? defundthebbc

bbcbias at it again!!! stopbrexit

To suggest that Union supporters are worried is wrong. They are not worried, they are sick and tired of the never ending moaning from the SNP. Scotland has been neglected for the last 13 plus years under their control. Everything is failing. They are incompetent and pointless.

Best out of three or five until they win. Ridiculous.

Why do they not have a referendum for the English and see if they want Scotland hanging on and on and on and on and on? Sod it maybe the English may then get free prescriptions etc with all the money they will save by not constantly subsidising them.

They said the last referendum was 'once in a generation'. Like most things these days. If you don't like the outcome ignore your previous promises and have another go,,,, or declare it fake, or corrput.

What's going on is the SNP once again proving themselves to be the liars they are. No respect for democracy (on both referenda) because neither went their way, and instead of building up Scotland they keep on moaning, and failing the Scottish people

Nothing is going on, UK gov won’t agree to it because we had a referendum and said no..Sturgeon knows that but is just whistling up the anti UK feeling...

Stupid question, BBC. There is a far more immediate problem to be overcome before that question can be addressed again. Have you heard about COVID-19?.?

60% of Scottish trade is with the rest of the UK, And there is a huge amount of cross border travel for work and families. An independent Scotland would have to maintain close ties with the UK if it didn't want it's economy to collapse, add to that the effects of Covid and Brexit

You'd think the SNP had bigger priorities with their abysmal handling of the Covid crisis!

Better together 🇬🇧

Nick why mention the 2017 General Election result but not the 2019 one? No mention of the broken promises of many unionist politicians since 2014 indyref? nickeardleybbc BBCScotNewsdesk bbcgms

When Trump moves in it’ll be “I’m going to build a Big Beautiful Canal, and England is going to pay for it”

It isn't happening. We had our vote, we chose to remain part of UK. Scotland is going downhill in all areas under the SNP mismanagement, and all they go on about is independence.

Sturgeon is trying to deflect from the fact she has lost another vote on withholding evidence and needs to resign for lying and perverting justice... And the nationalist placemen in the BBC and elsewhere are obliging..

This is just more poor journalism by Boris’s Broadcasting Corp trying to take the focus off his shambolic handling of the pandemic & Brexit. No one in Scotland is talking about independence (except maybe a few embarrassing tories). What about continuing corruption in No10?

Nothing to see here. It's coming to light she has not been the Saint Nicola over COVID she portrays herself as and then there's the Salmond affair. It's standard SNP squirrel techniques.

Nothing of the sort is being offered. The SNP only promise to swap Westminster for Brussels.

Sod all. The Scottish Nationalists stuck in 2014 unable to comprehend why they lost because they still hold the same exceptionalist beliefs that led them to believe that everyone else would bend over & give them want they want. Scots Indy was a delusion in '14 & still is!

It’s not Scottish independence, it’s Scotland’s independence. There are plenty of people living in Scotland who are not Scottish.

They had a referendum in 2014 and voted to stay with the British peoples.

Nothing, as usual.

These colonies getting all uppety again

Declaration Of Arbroath - 6th April 1320 : 'As long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours, that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone..'

The Scots might want it, but the English *definitely* want it

They're on the rag

I think the Scott's are brilliant , they're a great bunch of people that deserve to rule themselves without being held back by the British government that can't even run their part of the country the right way, anything past Manchester is barren land according to one conservative

boris says NO , the majority of Scottish says Yes ....... and the answer to you TOOL TROLLS question . As its name implies, a material breach or total breach, is a serious violation of the terms of a contract.

Nothing is going on with indyref2 Back in 2014 theSNP was going to drag Scotland🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 out of the UK and out of the EU; now however, the party is pretending they're doing round 2 because they want to rejoin the EU again. It's full on deceit and people shouldn't fall for it. 🤔

Leave means leave.. The irony....

It’s going to happen soon, that’s what’s going on 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Taiwan wants to be independent of mainland China. China will have to use military force to solve the issue. Taiwan is part of China, which can never be overwhelmed with whatever methods you use. People in mainland China and people in Taiwan have the same roots and blood.

Miss old cranky two shoes said her self in an interview that it was a Once in a lifetime vote 🗳
