Doctors and nurses in Italy have been celebrated as heroes for treating desperately ill coronavirus patients.Lombardy was the hardest-hit region in the world and medics are struggling to hold it together.
In his photos, he wants to show how his colleagues are coping with 'Phase 2' as life goes back to normal in Italy. Some 70% of health workers dealing with Covid-19 in Italy's hardest-hit areas are suffering from burnout, a recent study shows."This is actually the hardest moment for doctors and nurses," says Serena Barello, the author of the study."But when you finally have time to reflect on what happened, and society is moving on, it can all come crushing down and you feel more exhausted and emotionally distressed," says Dr Barello.
And yet, many health workers now feel that it's almost as if this pandemic never happened."I feel overwhelmed with anger," says Elisa Nanino, a doctor who dealt with Covid-19 in care homes.
Our nurses and doctors were heros long before Coronavirus.
me so hurt bbc hate trump / cummings/ me so hurt hire somebody from out of town
Italy has over 155.000 Chinese living in the Bergamo region. 350.000 chinese live in the north of Italy. Chinese work for the 'Made in Italy' brands. They travel back & forth. Some are illegal. You dont need to be a brain to understand why Italy was badly hit. Trauma, heroes...
I don't do hero worship. Consider NHS front-line staff, they are doing their jobs in the same way that the armed forces don't spend all their time marching or on peace-keeping duties, sometimes they have to fight - and they don't always have the right equipment for the battle.
Yup and I've no doubt this is how it'll go for every Country in the World, forgotten by Governments, remembered by the people
because heroes are war veterans.
We were told that taking photos, in an NHS microbiology lab, was a disciplinary matter.
Let this be a warning to all frontline staff, you’re worth a polite round of applause from manipulators and the manipulated, and not one thing more
The same will happen in the UK. The same as a lot of Forces Personnel have gone through it's nothing new. We'll be back to our uncaring selfish norm before you know it. Even the clapping lost its way.
teddyboylocsin This is heartbreaking!
Nurses need more appreciation around the world. They proved their important role in saving lives during emergency.
This will happen in England soon. The Karen's will soon be demanding managers once more, NHS staff abused, social distancing ignored...
teddyboylocsin Sad reality. HCW frontliners are being used for publicity stunt treated as heroes. It’s like a trend it comes and it goes. liftHCWbanNOW
teddyboylocsin Nobody has been labelled a hero for helping someone deal with influenza in centuries. I’m not shocked by this recent one.
Don’t worry, its not going away, just like the flu virus. You’ll be back in the news for round two come September
Doctors, surgeons, nurses around the globe face unspeakable horrors day to day, that make a respiratory disorder affecting the old/medically vulnerable seem like a walk in the park. They face this with far fewer resources. You did a great job. What is it you want?
The critical workers are already being forgotten across Italy & the virus isn't dead or defeated The pandemic is still at large across the world & as long as nations are still flying, everyone is at risk But the UK talking about quarantine breaker Dominic Cummings SkyNews
The only workers who CANNOT work from home: fire dept, police dept, Emergency Medical workers, many utility workers and dam workers, workers to keep the internet going, Postal workers, UPS, Fed Ex. Who else is essential?
That is impossible! No one but UK will forget u!
😭
Not to me! Medical workers who work tirelessly for their patients will always be my hero. I say a little prayer for all of you every day.
This is terrible - during the height of the crisis they were (rightly) highlighted as doing an essential and humanitarian service as well as being lauded for their efforts and promised a bonus. Now all seems to be forgotten - also what happens should a second wave of Corona hit?
Just like our heroes in the NHS and care staff, forgotten and left with nothing to pay for food but claps.
A chilling reminder to borisjohnson that coronavirusuk is actually about people. REAL PEOPLE. DECENT PEOPLE. CARING PEOPLE. And you just don't give a flying FIG. Ůģh!
you need Trump
Grow up
It's a fickle world...
