The most popular baby names for 2020 in England and Wales have been revealed by the Office for National Statistics - and the data also reveals names that are falling out of fashion

It can be really tough to choose the perfect name for a child - with current-day trends influencing some parents, while others opt for a more traditional choice.There are some firm favourites - with Olivia and Oliver coming in as the most popular names for boys and girls in England and Wales for eight years running.

But according to the Office for National Statistics, many previously popular choices are in danger of going extinct, while others already have. Get the news you want straight to your inbox. Sign up for a Mirror newsletter here According to the data for baby names, no boys were called Nigel in 2020 - making it 'extinct'.

As dramatic as it sounds, that could mean that only two babies were named Nigel last year, meaning it isn't fully unused.The ONS only records a name if three or more children are called by it, for data protection purposes.Interestingly, the chart isn't filled with outdated archaic names - in fact, it's likely you know people with them. headtopics.com

There were only eight boys called Stuart, and three called Brad and Billie respectively. Similarly to Nigel, there weren't any babies registered with the name Carol last year, while there were only 14 Carly's.Only seven girls were registered with the name Carrie, while three were given the name Cheryl.
