Explained: Why 5G and Huawei matter
The involvement of the Chinese tech firm in Britain's 5G network is believed to have caused tension between the US and UK in recent months.Critics fear that allowing Huawei to build the network would be handing control of infrastructure to Beijing. There are also concerns that, with the company's close links to the Chinese government, the equipment could be used for espionage, something the company has always denied.
A Huawei spokesman told the Sunday Telegraph:"Huawei is the most scrutinised vendor in the world and we firmly believe our unrivalled transparency in the UK means we can continue to be trusted to play a part in Britain's gigabit upgrade.Swedish telecoms company Ericsson has said it would be capable of replacing all of the Huawei equipment in the UK's 5G network if the British government decides to ban the Chinese company.

There’s nothing viable to replace Huawei and by all accounts this will be very costly
Not a U-turn. This is based on events that have occurred since the initial decision was made. China inflicted the virus on us and the world, if not for their lies, hundreds of thousands of people would still be alive. After their actions in HK, we need to cut all ties with them.
zerohedge Prerequisite for any UK-US trade deal. Like the NHS, Clorinated chicken, Genetically modified food, no role for UK courts in dispute settlement etc, etc. A former independent EU country falls into US servitude.
So Ericcson is the fall guy, up for sale and to be '0wn3d' by US FBI, CIA, and UK Mi6. All the best folks.
zerohedge Good move.
zerohedge Let us hope. ExposeChina. And never forget CommunismKills

Yey!!!
zerohedge Boris been doing work lately.. I appreciate it
It's important to focus on the facts that, Covid-19 pandemic is one of the time oriented example that China can not and should not be trusted.
UK is US's pupet now?
This is all due to US politics. The more stringent US ban will force Huawei to use more Chinese technology, but the main concern was always that Huawei was a Chinese company in the first place. The report will just give the UK govt a reason to U turn, but is not the real reason!
YES!!!
Thank u UK. This is major announcement. BorisJohnson
Better than too late 🙈
✅ Would China allow a Western Country to be a strategic part of their country's communications strategy ? NO ‼️ .... Because China aren't that stupid.
Is there anyone left who hasn't caved !

India - are you listening. Also a good idea to replace Chinese firms from the 3G/4G service contracts. PMOIndia
zerohedge Not surprising given the fact that UK is a patented puppet of USA. China

zerohedge Boris is only abandoning Huawei because Trump has given him no choice.
zerohedge Chinese Communist Party is the cancer of human world.
Good. We don't want their digital viruses destroying us in future.

zerohedge And yet this.
I mean, it's not like they weren't warned months & months ago but blunderingly carried on regardless. This government is a shower, an absolute SHAH.
I how no real problem with Huawei, have owned their phones and they were quality. But fuckchina! we should never have passed all our manufacturing needs to them in the first place. Somewhere more benign like India would be better.
