Many more will die unless we fix structural problems that have blighted Britain’s response, say scientists

Leading medics and scientists have called on Boris Johnson to order a public inquiry to prepare Britain for a second wave of the coronavirus this winter, warning that many more will die unless the country improves its response.

Harkaway You can’t prevent the inevitable, by the time an inquiry is established it will already be to late. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but, they had foresight and did not act upon it, action could now be taken in an attempt to lessen the devastation but...

devisridhar There are only two possibilities left at play now ,1)the second wave if it exists is inevitably coming in 2/3 weeks time or 2) transmission and severity are far less than the original measures required and in 2/3 weeks we are still on a steady downward trend and the panic is over

A 2nd wave is now inevitable, what are government's plans for reinstatement of lockdown if C19 cases or deaths reach X or Y? We initially locked down at cumulative 335 dead, last week over 1000 died and they still eased lockdown, Government has become complacent with numbers.

A 2nd wave is now inevitable, what are government's plans for reinstatement of lockdown if C19 cases or deaths reach X or Y? We initially locked down at cumulative 335 dead, last week over 1000 died, & still eased lockdown, Government has since become complacent with numbers.

devisridhar The structural weaknesses are 1) general idiocy; 2) deliberate sabotage of bureaucracy; 3) incompetent medical doctors. - COVID-19 mortality if treated by competent doctros is 1%; - The epidemic was terminated by simple Common Sense measures in many countries (e.g. Switzerland).

devisridhar The BAME whitewash review this week made it very clear that this UK Gov under Boris Johnson is not interested in a in a wide-ranging, in-depth and open coronavirus inquiry. The facts will be buried along with the Covid dead. What you’ll get is another whitewash.

devisridhar It doesn’t help that this government give the impression everything is going back to normal quickly. It seems to be promoting a false sense of security which will have negative results I am certain.

devisridhar Are these independent experts any better than SAGE? They seem to be just a talking shop. Are they actually organising any actions on the ground to stop this virus? There are examples, like Prof Alex Friedrich in NL, actually doing something. Anyone similar in the UK?

devisridhar Government may take note of good advice and base their instructions on it but capability also needed to enable these measures to happen on the ground.

devisridhar We don’t really need an enquiry though do we? We know what needs to be done and it’s not happening.

devisridhar I feel, with the present government, a second wave of the virus is inevitable. They haven’t listened to the experts so far. What reason would they have to agree to an enquiry that will show up their incompetence and shortcomings?

devisridhar More wasted money. I guess they'll get paid to opinion with no liability

Which experts are these? I trust they are not the same ones who have been involved in tackling this outbreak.

trishgreenhalgh Translation : UK experts call for Labour to prevent deadly second wave of voters electing Boris again at the next election.

Stop illegal protests how about that? It's a no brainer. That's how S.Korea got new cases didn't close nightclubs people up close together. Get it?

Let’s wait til it happens instead of wishing it will happen.
