Ever sent a tweet and then spotted a typo? Well soon you might be able to go back and edit it out.

Elon Musk started a poll on Monday after disclosing that he owned a 9.2% stake in Twitter, which made him the firm's biggest shareholder. The poll has already attracted over four million votes.

Twitter polls are notoriously unscientific - yet Mr Musk appears to make real-life decisions based on their results. Mr Musk's poll on whether there should be an edit button on Twitter is being taken seriously by the chief executive of Twitter. "The consequences of this poll will be important. Please vote carefully," Parag Agrawal said.

Just delete the tweet and and retype it out or live with the typo 🙄

'I hate black people' 'OMFG Mike GTFO & never speak to me again' Sneaky edit 'black people' to 'black olives.' 'Cant even dislike a food without getting cancelled these days.' Write column for the daily fail on snowflake lefties. Profit ££££

This is going to be an abuser's charter: 1. Send hate speech 2. Watch the victim react angrily 3. Edit it 4. Abuse the victim for their angry reaction 5. Repeat

I can’t believe people think it’s worth completely breaking Twitter … so you can fix a typo. It’s the most Verschlimmbesserung thing imaginable.

Awlays

That means everyone can like a tweet and then that tweet can be edited, sounds a bit dangerous.

It sounds really messy with people editing Tweets that already have comments

Twitter working on edit button but says idea did not come from Elon MuskSocial media company says it has been working on edit button since 2021 and will be tested on people signed up for Twitter Blue An edit function should have a strict time limit (made for honest typos) - I don't want people covering up what they say and try and get away with it. Bad idea. People will change their tweets after been called out. A bad idea - you could like/retweet an innocuous tweet that is subsequently edited into something poisonous.
