TV naturalist David Bellamy dies aged 86

Bellamy died on Wednesday, according to the foundation, of which he was president and co-founder.

RIP I will always remember Lenny Henry doing an impersonation of him on TISWAS back in the late 70’s

So sad. He and Mr. Attenborough fired my interest in the natural world as a child. Can still remember him “wummaging awound in the undergwoth searching for little cweatures!” with his expressive hand gestures.

I saw this guy in NZ airport once. Walked up to him and greeted him like my long lost uncle. Didn’t realise it was David Bellamy. He didn’t seem to mind. RIP to a great naturalist who could make a lasting connection to his audience.

Such a shame. David was a wonderful naturalist with his own very characteristic way of presenting everything. Full of of enthusiasm and bringing interest in everything from a thousand-year old tree to a beetle on the water of a pond. One of a kind, and we all benefited from him.
