As the need for watches has waned, the timepiece has become a wrist-based statement. Wearing one now can feel like a coded message

I can tell the time. Honestly, the big hand, etc, the little hand and so on. I can definitely, absolutely tell the time, but a moment came, around 20 years ago, when I realised… I no longer had to.

I miss wearing a proper watch... I’ve worn a Fitbit watch almost exclusively for a few years now. Activity tracking is oddly addictive, strange considering the tech is a tad ropey really!

It means I like watches.

Because it is a jewellery.

Watches for most outside of needing them for a profession (nurse etc.) have long been a piece of jewellery. I don’t wear one for work / daily stuff but do when socialising, along with three additional thumb / finger rings to go with the one I wear permanently.

Wtf is this?

charlotteh71 Even harder to tell the time when the numbers are offset from the norm 🙈 hamilton

It means you're cool and have a big willy. Obvs.

charlotteh71 And for those who need to know the time yet can't get mobile phones out at work, I'm a gardener, hands always dirty, got a waterproof watch for £25 at my local independent jewellers. But teachers, nurses, doctors, care workers, etc.. watches are still essential

Gosh! I wear a watch and had no idea there was so much hidden meaning. I thought I just wanted to know the time.

My watch is a mobile phone.

I like wearing my smartwatch. It links to my phone which means that I can just leave my phone in my pocket. Quite civilised!

It means you don’t have to charge it every night. It means it’s simple functionality (i.e. telling the time & date) wont flood you with superfluous lifestyle data that many are obsessed with & live by. Design, materials, looks, colours - the timepiece world is your oyster.

Depends on where it's been

I never understood it either. Until my mom, now in her 70s, got me a watch for my birthday. She never got me a gift I liked, but I loved the watch and wear it daily since. I like that I think of her whenever I check the time :)

Wearing a watch? Absolute fucking cringe tbh 😳

Many if not most kids now can't even read analog clocks. Sad.

Care homes won’t like it, but we’ve come to the end of cheap labourThe low-wage culture is under threat - and it's about time too | FraserNelson FraserNelson The lesson here is don't use right wing lobbying groups for financial information. FraserNelson At over £3000/ 4 week period to maintain a person in a care home there is more than low wage culture under threat. Care of the elderly is an area not overly popular with the UK workforce. The care sector is heading for major problems. FraserNelson I doubt it very much because it was never immigration that was supressing wages.
