Teachers and police officers among those to reportedly benefit but no new funds available

Two million public sector workers including police officers and teachers are to receive above-inflation pay increases, the biggest for six years, the government is expected to announce.

In other words, usual Tory action, making a promise and making other people, i.e. local councils, pay for it.

But the caveat is it comes from within existing (shrinking) budgets. So cut numbers / services to pay increases or does the money come from the 'magic efficiencies tree'?

General Election looming.

Does this apply to civil servants in Northern Ireland? nipsa trade union members will be striking next Friday as most civil servants are STILL only getting below inflation 1% austerity rises.
