Luxury purchases are meant to make us feel like a million dollars but impostor syndrome is at work even while we’re shopping

Shopping is a faith-based activity – we buy non-essentials because we believe, to some extent, that they will improve our lives. At the very least, we trust an indulgent new purchase to spark some fleeting satisfaction before fading into the tedium of all our other stuff.

At 73 I've never felt or seen anything like this gibberish! If you can afford it and for some obscure reason want it - buy it and enjoy ffs!

I’ll be reading the original article as well, to get more ground on it. Interestingly enough I’m one of the “give the kid the lifeboat I know how to swim” types of people — AND I own many pairs of Manolo Blahniks without shame.
