If the length of your lashes is getting you down, there are a bunch of tricks these days to get them looking long and fluttery. Lash extensions, growth serum, strip lashes are all options, however, according to beauty fans on TikTok, lash length is all down to how you use your eyelash curlers. The latest beauty hack going viral on the video platform sees users curling their eyelashes with a bizarre new approach – upside down. It all began when TikToker @audboos shared a tutorial with her 272.3k followers on how she gets her lashes looking long and wispy. The clip has been viewed over 1.3 million times, proving there might just be something in this method. Speaking to the camera, the user says: “I’m going to show you guys my game-changing lash trick. This is weird, bare with me. I’m using my Dermstore lash curler and I’m actually going to curl my eyelashes upside down,” For the first step, the TikToker places her eyelash curlers upside down and carefully clamps her eyelashes between the tool. Starting at the base of her lash line, she carefully presses down and repeats the process until she gets to the tips of her eyelashes. “You want to get all of your lashes, and just working your way down the lash, you’re curling them upside down. See how much straighter they are,” she says. For the next step, the user then places her eyelash curlers the right way round, and curls her eyelashes upwards. “Then you go in and get right up to the roots and curl it upwards,” she says. Finally, the user coats her eyelashes in L'Oréal Paris Telescopic Mascara in Carbon Black, £8.75 here, and reveals her seriously lengthened eyelashes. “I mean, come on,” she says with excitement, showing off the finished look. The hack has been liked over 244k times, with many users flocking to the comment section to share their thoughts. “When you said game changing, you didn’t lie,” one person says. “This works so well,” another writes, while a third adds: “I need to try this”. It’s no secret her eyelashes do look amazing after this hack, but is it actually safe? Optometrist and co-founder of eye health brand Peep Club, Nicole Alexander-Cross, has explained her take on the trending hack. “Curling your lashes upside down seems pretty harmless as long as you are taking care of your overall lash and eye health,” she says. “If you're routinely taking your eye makeup off with a gentle makeup remover – one that conditions your eyelashes rather than makes them brittle – and making sure that your eyes are kept clear from infection and irritants then careful use of a lash curler, right way up or upside down is a great way to naturally enhance your natural eyelashes,” she adds. Nicole also urges people to be super careful not to tug your lashes at all when using your lash curler, and to ensure you keep your lash curler clean too. “This can be done with a cotton pad and eye makeup remover,” she says. And to keep your lashes healthy? Nicole recommends using a super conditioning lash balm or gentle makeup remover like Peep Club’s Soothing Coconut Eye Balm, £20 here.
