How did 16 policemen come to be deported from the British Isles to Nazi-occupied Europe?

During the German occupation of their island, a group of Guernsey policemen were deported to brutal labour camps in Nazi-occupied Europe after appearing before a British court. Their crime? Stealing food from the Germans to stop civilians from going hungry.

Constables Kingston Bailey and Frank Tuck began their first acts of resistance against the occupying forces by putting sand in the petrol tanks of their cars and painting "V for victory" signs around the island. Many policemen in the Channel Islands carried out acts of resistance against the German occupiers

And so Bailey and Tuck broke into the occupiers' stores at night, taking tinned food to share with those in need. Historian Dr Paul Sanders, who has worked on clearing the names of the men - all are now dead - said they didn't get a fair trial: "The British civilian court in 1942 acted like a kangaroo court in the worst dictatorship."

When Charles Friend was liberated by US forces he weighed only seven stone and was unable to use his legs.Herbert Smith died in a Gestapo prison and Charles Friend was unable to use his legs by the time he was liberated from Landsberg prison in 1945 Mr Friend remembered his father being resentful of Guernsey's authorities, who had told him they would "sort everything out when he got back from prison".

Pennsylvania Judge declares election unconstitutional and so basically hands the election to Trump.

I wept after reading this. The government local or national have powers to change laws they could change the ones that would draw a line under this issue. My heart goes out to the families.

Lock em up a crime is a crime

Some islanders collaborated or snitched on their neighbours, most just did what they could to get by. Meanwhile they were slowly starving. No collaborators were brought to justice after the war, probably because they held positions of power, the Home Office was on their side!

Would a Royal Pardon not work in this case?

With conservative MP Robert Buckland in charge at the MoJ and 1sr gen born in the U.K. Patel (fact before u accuse me of being racist) in charge at the HO. No chance.

Surely some law could be passed to deal with this horrible injustice. Bad enough that the Channel Islands were abandoned at the time.

This matter brings shame to the British justice system parliament & Churchill whom all stood by & allowed Guernsey to be occupied unchallenged

This is a shameful miscarriage of justice. These policemen were resisting occupation as best they could to help their fellow islanders. They deserve a medal not a criminal conviction.

Here before COVIDIOTS trying to compare that to protesting against having to stay at home and watch TV

Don’t you mean police people

Fast forward 80 years and the roles have been reversed

Why not tell us how the British Bobbies colluded with the Nazis to hunt down Jews in the islands? What? Does that not work for your British Nationalist agenda?

Awesome.

Love a nazi 😘 such a bunch of characters

thanks
