'It is not enough to just cast people of colour.' Bridgerton

Ali Pantony and Bianca Londonreimaged diverse cast as just race-baiting - a concept where marketers use diverse casts as bait to get diverse audiences to tune in. Race-baiting is also claiming to address racial issues but not following through. Some viewers said Bridgerton's address of racial issues did not go far enough and indeed, how race operated inwas unclear during my first watch.

And slowly, a narrative which explored the racialised lives of black characters starts to emerge. And still, I can see how some would describe the show as race-baiting because Lady Danbury doesn’t actually say the words ‘black’ and neither does Hastings Senior - or anybody else for that matter. I had to re-watch the show to read the situation this way.
