Acolytes of Jeremy Corbyn and US Democrats are making public spending promises funded not by the traditional modes of taxation or borrowing but by something being called modern monetary theory, or MMT.

Most money is created by commercial banks amyway, as a debt with interest attached. The money supply has increased by more than 100X since the early 1960s, most of it lent into existence by commercial banks. Huge house price inflation as more lent against property. The Bank of England should be creating interest free money to be spent on carefully costed social infrastructure. Otherwise we rely on higher taxation, more borrowing at interest from private banks and investors, selling public assets
