Editorial: The terrible scale of the tragedy cannot be attributed to misfortune. It is a product of negligent government

In Soho, central London, stands a replica of a 19th-century public water pump without a handle. The missing part is not a result of vandalism but a tribute to John Snow, the physician who correctly surmised that the pump, supplying contaminated water, was a super-spreading device for cholera. Snow mapped case data and lobbied the local parish authorities for the pump’s deactivation.

“I shook hands with everyone,” said Boris. Parents asked what to do with a child infected with covid while taking their other children to school. Schools only shut classes if a child was infected when the whole school should have closed down. Boris should resign.

An utterly damning account of the performance of an incompetent JohnsonGov imho, an absolute disaster for the people of this country, we deserved better.

It's unbelievable. The rag and the labour party speaking with one voice

That’s a surprise

Btw. Remember this guy

What are the other pandemic statistics that you're offsetting against?

The graud must be myopic.

excellent piece accurate and damning. tory governments always put party first. added to that obsessive ideology we have disaster with no accountability. the 1922 could have changed things. they did not. they carry as much blame as this terrible unintelligent infantile cabinet.

The blame lies with the Chinese Government who lied about the virus and allowed it to spread worldwide. Lets not forget the WHO and their negligence either!

Government, and government alone, are responsible for public health policy. Failure does not even describe it.

Are you guys a bit desperate to be selling some newspapers or up your advertising ££ writing something like this is idiotic at this time when it’s all over you can sit back and have a look but in the meantime actually report real news instead of trying to make it up

'Britain's NHS' treatment record'

Hindsight commentary.

The Guardian view on pandemic politics: we need cooperation, not confrontation | EditorialEditorial: Vaccinating the world is the only way out of Covid but a mixture of nationalism and protectionism is blocking the exit Criticism too soft, naturally I wonder how it would have been if Trump instead of Biden and UK instead of EU would have switched roles, what would this piece have read as? 'Brussels has enough vaccines.' It doesn't. UK on the other hand is about to start vaccinating low-risk populations while the elderly at risk in Europe go unvaccinated. How about the UK 'cooperates' by allowing Europe to keep the Dutch AZ vaccines. We're governed by mendacious, incompetent, corrupt fascists. The pressures and challenges of a global pandemic are hardly going to improve their performance.

The Guardian view on top-down politics in a pandemic: a fatal error | EditorialEditorial: As a new study of the government’s handling of Covid makes clear, good policymaking depends on listening to voices beyond Whitehall I wonder why Boris Johnson awarded a half-billion pound roads contract to a company with a history of paying off public officials and cutting cost by using sub-standard materials? FailedStateBritain He is an incompetent. Anyone paying attention would know that but they voted for him anyway. Brexit dominated everything and then pandemic came along. Massive failure on his part. Grift and graft seems universal.... even among the daft.

The Guardian view on anti-Asian hate: not just a pandemic problemThe killings in Atlanta come in the context of a recent global surge in abuse and assaults, with deeper roots No place for it. Give it a rest. Especially looking at Burma, inter ethic violence in India...stop blaming whitey for all the world’s woes. It’s intensely racist. Btw, I watch loads of Asian films and programmes. No sign of black or white people. WHO is busy digesting recent made-up COVID19 materials offered by CCP. woman ZhengLi SHI (WIV), man LinFa WANG (Duke-NUS Singapore) , Prof. Malik Peiris (HKU-Pasteur Institute) & Chinese military medical academy, with their overseas scientist allies contributed significantly!
