An investigation has revealed which Greater Manchester Hospitals have been constructed with dangerous and crumbling concrete.
Across England, NHS buildings and hospitals were previously described as 'ticking time bombs' that could 'collapse without warning', with repair costs mounting to over £1 billion. It is the fear of such a collapse being replicated in a busy hospital that has NHS trusts taking drastic measures as they apply for millions of pounds of funding to try and replace the affected buildings.
The government has already invested £685 million to address urgent risks but this again raises the problem of costs for new hospitals and buildings further down the line - which trusts say are ultimately the only way to address this problem.
