The company decoding African DNA to help fight diseases

His biotech firm intends to research diseases like sickle cell, which predominantly affect black Africans.

The bulk of the money is being used to expand the lab in Lagos, hire new staff members, and to build an off-grid power supply because of Nigeria's notorious power outages.

The biotech firm - named after 54 countries in Africa - also plans to expand operations on the continent through partnerships with pharmaceuticals and research programmes on the continent.
