Ministers have admitted to having problems securing coronavirus testing kits, the Financial Times reports, as the UK's daily death toll from the outbreak rose sharply to 381. Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove told the daily coronavirus briefing in Downing Street that the government was having difficulty securing the chemicals needed to make sure the tests are reliable, the paper reports.

Britain’s care homes are in danger of being “overwhelmed” by coronavirus, with staff warning they are at “breaking point", according to the Guardian. MHA, which runs more than 220 facilities, said 750 staff were unable to work because of illness and confirmed deaths from the disease were rising.The i leads on continuing shortages of personal protective equipment for frontline NHS staff.
