Ministers are expected to clear the way for a visa change that would allow thousands of foreign lorry drivers to work in the UK

This marks a big change in approach. Previously the government has focused on handing visas to high skilled individuals in the hope that labour shortages would drive up wages to make professions more attractive to people who already live in the UK.

Meanwhile, Sky News understands that government departments are being asked to come up with emergency contingency plans. "No one has asked us to provide drivers. No one is currently asking us. I don't expect anyone to ask us to provide drivers," they said.Cabinet are split on visas, with George Eustice and Steve Barclay pushing for.

Shell reported an"increased demand" at stations, with many drivers experiencing longer queues than normal.Sainsbury's, Asda, and Morrisons said they were not affected. "But like countries around the world, we are suffering from a temporary COVID-related shortage of drivers needed to move supplies around the country.

Tory government..... always late to the party because of U-turn delays. Not got a clue what's happening in the country.

Wonder how many will come?

🤦‍♀️This is what gets my goat-We wouldn’t be in this mess regarding lorry drivers or any workers in an industry, if the employers of these companies hadn’t thought they were being smart and paying for cheap labour by employing EU workers in the first place, instead of UK workers!🤷‍♀️

Yet another U turn. Crisis policy making.

Drivers or owner drivers..

All with this poxy Government!😏

Finally admitting that Brexit was a disaster then. We've no shortages of drivers here in the EU, no queues at petrol stations.
