I tried it once, as people were saying how good it was. Just awful! Felt like I had been stood up! Pitying looks etc. I just left some money for the restaurant and quietly left.Never again!

It's wonderful!! I've travelled half the world on my own and eaten in some of the best restaurants. It's very liberating. I'd recommend approaching it as a positive choice rather than a failure. Must admit it can make other diners uncomfortable seeing a woman eating alone
