'What we got was a meal deal' - CarolineLucas on the Government's recent mini-budget

AdvertisementWhat we got was a meal deal, a small gesture towards green jobs in the form of £3 billion to insulate homes and public buildings, and handouts to employers who keep on furloughed staff.Allocating £3billion for building insulation is not a green recovery. The Government’s own figures show it would cut just 0.14% of our emissions. Aiming to make 650,000 homes more energy efficient when there are 24million homes in the country barely scratches the surface of what’s needed.

Across the world, there are signs of a climate under extreme stress: temperatures of 38C in the Arctic, deforestation in the Amazon which is even worse than last year’s catastrophic fires, and the fiercest storm this century hitting Bangladesh.
