Strictly contestant Rose Ayling-Ellis reveals how she's rehearsing without hearing the music

EastEnders actress Rose Ayling-Ellis is working with pro dancer Giovanni Pernice to perfect their choreography

EastEnders actress Rose, who is the BBC One show’s first deaf contestant, explained that she is relying on counting to the beat instead of being able to hear the music.Allowing the BBC cameras into the training room as she took time out of rehearsals with Giovanni, the 26-year-old explained: “I’m not really relying on the music, I’m relying on counting and the beat.”

She then went on to explain that it was essential that she was given the same chance as everyone else in the competition.Rose, who is performing a jive on the first live show, said: “I can’t do my job the same as everyone else if I don’t have equal access to it.” headtopics.com

“So if you provide me my access then I’ll do my job the same as everyone else’s. I like to try and do better because I like to prove people’s expectations of me are wrong.” Meanwhile, her partner Giovanni added: “It's going to be different, it’s going to be a challenge for both of us because obviously I’ve never done it like this, I’ve never experienced anything like this before.”

“I’m more connected to my partner in this case because I know this is the only way we can communicate.”Giovanni also went on to say that viewers would be blown away by Rose’s skills on the dance floor, explaining: “She can dance. People will be very surprised.”

Rose previously explained that she would also be joined by an interpreter in every part of the show, from the training room to the live shows when she’ll receive comments from the judges.Speaking on last week’s launch show, Rose told Strictly host Tess Daly: “I have an interpreter with me so I can understand what’s going on all the time.”

This comes after the soap star opened up on making history in the competition, and explained her motivation to sign up.Rose said: “I feel like it’s so important for somebody like me to be on the show, I want to break down the stereotype that deaf people can’t dance and can’t enjoy music.” headtopics.com
