Chris Heaton-Harris was speaking following a meeting with Ireland’s Foreign Minister Simon Coveney at Hillsborough Castle.
The met to discuss the stalemate at Stormont, where there has not been a fully-functioning executive since February.over the Northern Ireland Protocol, which is part of the post-Brexit trade agreement. Mr Coveney said it would be an "extraordinary failure of politics" for Stormont to approach the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement next year with the institutions collapsed.
Mr Coveney said: "The messages coming out of London are quite different from what we heard a few months ago." Under the terms of the relevant legislation, if a first minister and deputy first minister are not appointed by 28 October:The offices of first and deputy first minister and the other ministerial offices can no longer legally be filledThe secretary of state is required, as soon as practicable, to propose a date for an Assembly election which must take place within 12 weeks
chhcalling simoncoveney Have a referendum on the protocol?
chhcalling simoncoveney In the current climate the protocol is like a tadpole to a whale. Just get back in and deal with the protocol while running an executive for your electorates.
chhcalling simoncoveney Brexiters 2016-2020 “We know what we voted for stop telling us we didn’t” 2022 “No Stormont with the protocol” It remains a clown show, time to vote in some grown ups folks
chhcalling simoncoveney And what does he do if the DUP come back with the same or even improved mandate?
chhcalling simoncoveney Bring it on. Farry will lose his seat.
chhcalling simoncoveney So will they keep calling an election until the DUP win?
chhcalling simoncoveney 'Very straightforward'. Oh really?
chhcalling simoncoveney The protocol has caused the £ and € to slump, crashed the Executive and meant that Northern Ireland has been subjected to threats of violence from EU/RoI, has its medicines supplies under threat, and is the only country in the UK seeing its good exports fall Do the math.
chhcalling simoncoveney Bottom line is dup are not going to play second fiddle to sinn Fein..End of story
chhcalling simoncoveney Move on without the dirty unionists
chhcalling simoncoveney Why has it went on this long totally ridiculous stop paying them till they go to work!!
What's that going to change? The same tubes will get back in
chhcalling simoncoveney Let's hope he isn't going to do everything that the Irish foreign minister tells him to do.
chhcalling simoncoveney “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” DUP will not accept any result other than one that benefits them. This is a waste of time, money and energy. Stop the wages now and watch how quick an executive is formed.
chhcalling simoncoveney
chhcalling simoncoveney Scrap the protocol if you want Stormont back.
chhcalling simoncoveney An election that will return the same result....NO STORMONT..... unless the Irish Protocol is removed
EmmandJDeSouza chhcalling simoncoveney This Chris Heaton Harris
chhcalling simoncoveney Farcical, you could have an Executive formed tomorrow if you really wanted.
chhcalling simoncoveney Go for it lads …… you’ll wipe out the UUP and SDLP ….. maybe that’s the game plan ?
chhcalling simoncoveney Cut the MLAS pay especially the DUP
chhcalling simoncoveney What this protocol?
chhcalling simoncoveney Stop the salary getting paid. Enough is enough now!
chhcalling simoncoveney Why have you not stopped their salaries? People facing defaults on their mortgages, on top of an cost of living crisis and and a devolved Government who have abandoned its people, Northern Ireland in 2022
chhcalling simoncoveney Yeah that’ll fix it…😏
chhcalling simoncoveney Just do it now let’s get ball rolling
