An urgent “family stimulus” package alongside the chancellor’s new job support scheme is vital to prevent hundreds of thousands of parents and their children falling below the poverty line this winter, according to a new joint report from the IPPR thinktank and the TUC.

This is a country where some education providers have food banks for students and their families. Where some kids rely on free breakfasts and lunch. We don't just need a stimulus we need a rethink. We need to focus on standards of living again.

leo14754 If the benefits system was not so broke we would not need this. Families should never go hungry in 21st century Britain.

Help pay for this by continuing National Insurance contributions for better off pensioners and not reducing the payment to 2% on the higher earners. And ensure tax is paid by the wealthiest. It is shameful that there is such a high level of poverty in this “wealthy” nation
