Coronavirus: Spanish study casts doubt on herd immunity

"In this situation, social distance measures and efforts to identify and isolate new cases and their contacts are imperative for future epidemic control."There have been studies of a similar kind in China and the US and"the key finding from these representative cohorts is that most of the population appears to have remained unexposed" to the coronavirus,"even in areas with widespread virus circulation," the Lancet article said.

The country has recorded more than a quarter of a million cases and at least 28,385 deaths. But daily fatalities have been in the single figures for most of the past three weeks.have re-imposed restrictions on an area of 70,000 people following an outbreakOfficials linked local outbreaks to bars in the area. Capacity in bars and restaurants have been limited to 50%.

told you so months back

Well if you lock up 95 % of your population away from the virus in a nationwide lockdown state then only the 5% that was exposed to it will get it. If you allowed more out then your numbers could be higher.

To late for us our government already tried it at the beginning before they realised hospitals was becoming over run.

BorisJohnson lied says new report

If the authors of this are even a shadow of the WHO, PHE or ONS then I won’t start panicking yet. It’d be interesting to know what anyone thinks they can do about it if it’s true and this virus really is unique.

'the key finding from these representative cohorts is that most of the population appears to have remained unexposed' to the coronavirus, 'even in areas with widespread virus circulation,' Another explanation; not all with mild or asymptomatic illness develop antibodies.

Surely going into lockdown slowed down the natural herd immunity? As slowing the spread virus would also slow it down too. It gets me that some people act like politicians made up herd immunity when it's an actual thing in nature

Cross immunity

Seems this is as reliable as the faulty test kits they used in South Korea to prove that once people had recovered from Coronavirus they were giving positive readings for having the virus. That was rubbish and this sounds just as likely. What are we going to do about it?

Tough shit then Boris/ Dominic 😷

Almost like herd immunity without a vaccine was a dangerous idea to begin with....
