Number of social homes built in rural England falls by more than 80% in last six years

In fact, the IPPR says the amount of affordable rent housing has risen by 97% since 2011-12, while social housing has fallen by 83%.Affordable rent homes tend to be let at 80% of market value, while social housing is rented at a much lower rate, and in many cases is the only option for those on low income.

"So housing developers and housebuilders actually find it much easier to get the grant funding they need to make the profits they desire on the affordable rent housing."The struggle to get on the housing ladder in predominantly rural England is tougher than in urban areas. "Some of the issues that rough sleepers might face in urban areas such as exposure to the elements, difficulties in accessing healthcare services, difficulties in accessing accommodation, these are all the more pronounced in rural areas.

Ms Holden said:"We chose Twyning because it's a community - so the children could have local friends, so it's safe cycling around on the roads, so I could walk the dog across fields."She said that if developers continue to build on greenbelt land"everything we've moved for won't exist any more". "If we were suddenly to have another 170 houses, I don't think that the ability of the village would cope with that," they said.

Where are Boris’s £ billions now? This is a crazy statistic. Greed for private builds 😳 Do we actually have a Housing Minister

There is a block of social housing townhouses in an area of privately owned houses near me. It's a constant source of noise and antisocial behaviour causing nuisance to all in the area! Keep them all together in the same part of town. So sick of it and their bad behaviour!

The council house sell off back in the day should never have happened, you couldn’t blame people for buying at a knock down price but the sales have over the years added to this issue!

I see no problem with this. I resent greenbelt land being gobbled up by nasty flat pack houses.

Presumably that’s pretty much the same for urban England as well ? The fall in social housing of course has nothing to do with actual building which appears to have gone viral . Boxes being put up everywhere you look these days

The size of this was smaller then a shipping container. This would be a perfect way to sort social housing problem for single person or a couple. Easy to build and transport They can be built on hospital sites for the staff also saving them money on rent and travel to work 2/2

So these are rural areas of England? 🧐

I lived shared a studio flat with with a small kitchen for 6 years, we had a showers and a sink. You could bot fit 4 people. The rent stated at £350 and when we left was £590. BUT we had no problems living in it. 1/2.

would that be as opposed to an anti-social home?

Because they are allowing thousands of honed to be built that are not affordable they need to build social housing for rent not keep building homes to buy . They need more studios one beds for starters if they then want to buy they can save. If people want to downsize cheap rent
