Veteran SNP MSP Fergus Ewing previously called the Greens 'hard left extremists who should never be anywhere near government'.

The powersharing deal between the SNP and Greens at Holyrood is helping make Scotland "greener and fairer", the government has claimed.

But opposition parties claimed the deal was "utterly dysfunctional" after a series of failed policies such as the deposit return scheme. Gray, who led Humza Yousaf's campaign to become First Minister, insisted the deal between the two parties "signalled our shared commitment to working together to build a greener, fairer and independent Scotland".

"Our approach to delivering a just and fair energy transition – ensuring we work across parliament, with the sector and with communities – is a prime example of how this approach benefits Scotland."
