On a planet that is “flooding and burning, there are lots of alternatives to the arts that are drawing people’s dollars”. Tech tycoons have poured billions into global issues such as poverty and education; locally, Marc Benioff of Salesforce and Mark Zuckerberg have built hospitals.

The article offers little to support the premise of the tweet. If today, to “forge civic progress and make the city a better place” is the expected ROI on art, that’s no different than what 19th Century moguls sought with their gifts.

How about using their smarts and dollars to address mental illness, addition and homelessness? Seems more pressing, especially in California.
