The dictionary definition of the word “cower” is to shrink away in fear or terror. Sajid Javid, the Health Secretary, has apologised for its use in a tweet in which he said the country had to live with Covid since it was now an endemic disease, albeit one whose effects had been mitigated by the vaccines. Mr Javid himself has recovered fully within a week of testing positive.
